SOMETHING ELSE: Last January, when a character in the TVs “thirtysomething” was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, her TV husband consulted a book on the subject by UC Irvine’s Dr. Philip Disaia before she underwent surgery. . . . Now the specialist has returned the favor, honoring the show for increasing public awareness of the subject and has conferred with producers about what happens next for the character. Early this fall, she’ll get estrogen replacement therapy and undergo “second look” surgery, but series writers won’t say what the doctors will find.
