LOCAL : Record 233 Killings Last Month

Los Angeles County recorded a record 233 killings in August, bringing the unnatural death rate for the first eight months of the year to 20% above the same period last year, a coroner’s official said.
“We’re seeing a marked increase for reasons unbeknownst to me,” coroner’s spokesman Bob Dambacher said. “This is the highest rate in our reporting history.”
The previous monthly record of 227 was recorded in July, Dambacher said.
Of the killings, 104 occurred in the city of Los Angeles, Dambacher said.
