A Long Beach businessman carrying $184,000 in checks and cash was robbed outside a bank in Paramount by a lone gunman who escaped in a car, authorities said.

The victim, whose name was not released, was about to deposit the money Tuesday morning when he was accosted in the parking lot of a Bank of America branch on Paramount Boulevard, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Fidel Gonzalez said.

There have been no arrests, said sheriff’s Sgt. Ray Rodriguez.

The 70-year-old victim had just gotten out of his car with the bank bag when he was grabbed from behind and threatened with a gun, the deputy said.

“The suspect put a short-barreled blue steel revolver to the businessman’s head and stated, ‘Give me the bag or I’ll blow your head off,’ ” Gonzalez said.

The man surrendered the bag and the assailant jumped into a late-model white car and fled. No shots were fired.
