H. J. Heinz Co.: The Pittsburgh-based food company announced first-quarter net income of $143.2 million, up 13.2% from the same quarter last year. Revenue for the quarter was $1.56 billion, up 7.4% from the first quarter of 1989. The company attributed the increases to higher prices, favorable foreign exchange rate and strong performances by the company’s major brands in their respective markets.
