THE SIDELINES : Orioles Sign Clemente’s Son
The Baltimore Orioles have signed outfielder Roberto Clemente Jr. to play for their Double-A team in Hagerstown, the American League club announced Monday.
Clemente, 25, has played in the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres’ organizations. He last played professional ball in 1986 with the Padres’ Class A team in Charleston, S.C.
He batted .229 that season with no homers and two RBIs in 31 games.
Clemente is the son of Hall of Fame member Roberto Clemente, who was killed in a plane crash on New Year’s Day, 1973.
