Fluor Corp.: The giant engineering and construction firm said third-quarter net profit rose 18% to $40 million, reflecting an increasing volume of orders and greater operating margins. The Irvine-based company said revenue for the quarter ended July 31 totaled $1.8 billion, up 13.5% from the same period a year ago. The current results included a gain of $8 million from the sale of Pea Ridge Iron Ore Co. in Sullivan, Mo., while last year’s third-quarter earnings included a $9-million gain from a settlement with the National Iranian Oil Co.
