Authorities are still looking for the car they believe struck and killed 7-year-old Oscar Leonel Ruiz in Fallbrook Tuesday night.

Ruiz, of the 300 block of Kalmia Street in Fallbrook, died about 6:30 after being struck by what witnesses described as a black Mercedes-Benz with a cellular phone antenna on the rear, the California Highway Patrol said.

The boy, who had been skateboarding in a church parking lot, traveled from the lot out onto Orange Street, where he was struck by the car, CHP Officer Sergio Flores said.

“We have followed up on six or seven possible leads,” Flores said late Wednesday afternoon.

“We had two calls on black Mercedeses in the area and located both vehicles, but they weren’t the ones in question,” he said.

Anyone with information can call the CHP at 268-2276.
