Debris Spotted in Area Searched for Missing Jet

ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland —
A Canadian Forces search plane spotted debris Thursday floating in the North Atlantic near where a Peruvian Boeing 727 carrying 16 people is believed to have ditched two days earlier. Dick Pepper, a spokesman for the Canadian Rescue Coordination Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia, said the Aurora crew sighted the debris 240 miles southeast of Cape Race.
