Daryl Gates’ Comments on Drug Users

Help me understand. Gates wants to shoot and kill those who “blast a little pot.” And he wants a lenient sentence for junk bond king Michael Milken, someone who stole hundreds of millions (Business, Sept. 11). So if you steal millions of dollars and give a few to the needy, you’re a hero. But if you smoke pot, you’re a “traitor” who should be shot. A kinder and gentler America indeed, for those with money that is.
