San Diego
Three men who were participants in the San Diego Job Corps program in Imperial Beach were ordered Monday to stand trial on seven robbery and four attempted robbery charges in incidents with illegal immigrants near the Mexican border.
Eight undocumented workers testified during the three-day preliminary hearing in San Diego Municipal Court. Six victims each tentatively identified one or more of the three defendants, who are Donald Tyrone Young, 22, Ruben Augustine Saucedo, 20, and William Eugene Barnes, 24.
All witnesses were videotaped in case they cannot be located at the time of the trial, in which case the videotapes would be shown to a jury.
A 17-year-old co-defendant has a hearing Thursday in Juvenile Court to determine whether he should be tried as an adult or as a juvenile.
Judge Howard Shore ordered the adult defendants to appear Oct. 1 in Superior Court for the setting of a trial date. They remain in County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
