Here are the candidates running for the Trustee Area 2 seat on the Rancho Santiago Community College District Board of Trustees in the Nov. 6 election.
Vernon S. Evans
Age: 61
Occupation: Vice president and county manager, Chicago Title Co.
Background: Currently president of Rancho Santiago College Board of Trustees, member of the board since 1980. Former mayor of Santa Ana, former chairman of Santa Ana Planning Commission.
Issues: Seeks to further development of the college’s Orange campus, encourage joint use of public facilities and upgrade the Santa Ana campus.
Charles W. (Pete) Maddox
Age: 42
Occupation: Managing partner, Lido Group, a business planning firm based in Orange; business teacher at Rancho Santiago and Cypress colleges.
Background: Graduate of Santa Ana College. Endorsed by the executive board of the Faculty Assn. of the Rancho Santiago Community College District and by the Classified School Employees Assn.
Issues: Seeks to “open up the lines of communication” to the board by rescinding district policy requiring employees to give four days’ notice in order to address the board at meetings. Also wants to rescind the policy permitting the public to address the board only before the discussion of agenda items.
