HUNTINGTON BEACH : Lodge Gambling Charges Are Filed

Share

Misdemeanor charges were filed Monday against four people accused of running a gambling operation at a local Moose lodge.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Nina Rose Brice declined to identify the defendants until they had been formally notified of the charges. She said the suspects included officers at the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 1832.

After a two-year investigation, Huntington Beach police officers raided the lodge on Sept. 7 and seized slot machines, poker machines, bookmaking documents and lottery records. Investigators also found $7,000 in cash and gambling receipts.

Brice said she could have brought felony charges against some of defendants but opted for misdemeanor gambling charges, partially because the defendants had no criminal backgrounds.
