NATION : Bush Signs GIs’ Free Mail Bill

DENVER —
President Bush signed legislation today that will enable American military personnel in the Persian Gulf to send mail home without cost.
The bill, the first to be signed by Bush aboard his new Boeing 747 Air Force One, expands conditions in existing law for U.S. troops to enjoy free mail privileges.
The legislation amends the law to grant that benefit to personnel “engaged in temporary military operations under arduous circumstances.”
