A teen-ager who was robbed of his cheeseburger as he lay dying in South Los Angeles last week had been shot in the shoulder, an autopsy has revealed.

The bullet, fired by one of two men who was had demanded money and food from Jesus Velos, 17, as the youth sat with his younger brother in a mini-mall parking lot on Figueroa Street, entered Velos’ shoulder, piercing his heart and a lung, said Detective Richard G. Santiago.

Police had been unsure until the autopsy just what caused Velos’ death. When he was examined at California Hospital after the shooting, no one noticed the wound, which Santiago described as “smaller than a pencil eraser.”

Investigators have developed leads, Santiago said, but have no suspects.
