COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Yrizar’s Goal Gets UCI Past Navy in Water Polo
Pablo Yrizar scored with three seconds remaining in the game to give UC Irvine a 13-12 nonconference water polo victory Wednesday over Navy at Annapolis, Md.
Irvine, which is ranked No. 7 in the country and has a 3-3 record, saw a 7-4 halftime lead diminish as Navy outscored the Anteaters, 5-3, in the third quarter. Navy’s Elton Parker scored to tie the score at 12-12 with 53 seconds remaining before Yrizar’s winning goal.
Skylar Putnam scored four goals, Steve Gill had three and Yrizar two for Irvine.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
San Diego 2, UC Irvine 0--Leo Ronces and Toby Taitano scored for San Diego (5-0-3) at Irvine (2-5-1). Mike Gartlan had six saves for Irvine.
