Immigrants to Be Polled on Attitudes About Police
In an effort to determine why Asians and Latinos in Monterey Park are reluctant to report crime, the Police Department is conducting a joint study with Cal State Fullerton to survey the city’s large immigrant communities’ attitudes about police.
“Many people (are) newly arrived from foreign countries, many of them don’t speak English and view law enforcement officers as corrupt,” Police Capt. Daniel Cross said Friday. Cross and Chief Robert Collins called a news conference to announce the survey to reporters from English, Chinese and Spanish language media.
The door-to-door survey will take three to six months, Cross said.
