WORLD : 5th Youth Burns Self Over Caste

NEW DELHI —
A New Delhi student set himself on fire today in a growing campaign of protest against an Indian government plan reserving jobs for low-caste Hindus.
The student, S. S. Chauhan, was admitted in critical condition with burns over 98% of his body, a doctor at a hospital in the Indian capital said.
He was the fifth upper-caste student to set himself on fire in the past week over the jobs plan for low castes, backward classes and tribal people. A sixth student died over the weekend after taking poison.
