Gerald Kruglik’s U Bu Go will be gunning for his third straight win as he takes on arch-rival Capital Game and eight others in the $29,000 Breeders Championship for sophomore trotting colts and geldings Thursday night at Los Alamitos.

In post position order, the field is Mosey Along, Rick Plano in the race bike; Capital Game, Gaetan Brunet; Clark Canyon, Fritz Haug; Storm’s Brother, Ken Williams; Rowdy Mariah, Joe Lighthill; Little Sur, Jim Grundy; BH Fergus, Jack Parker Jr.; Macho Camacho, Pete Foley; U Bu Go, Mickey Difranco Jr.; and Here Comes Joe, Robert Reeser.

Here Comes Joe will start from the second tier in the sophomore trotting colt Breeders Championship, which will go as the eighth race on the program. U Bu Go and Capital Game just met in a similar California Sires Stakes last Thursday with the former getting a nose decision in a lifetime best 1:59 3/5.

Capital Game could turn the tables on U Bu Go. The Jack Sherren-trainee was heavily favored to win last week, but couldn’t quite get the job done. Still, the son of Camp David only missed by a nose from getting his ninth win of the year.

Rowdy Mariah, from the barn of Joe Lighthill, raced well last Thursday in picking up the show money behind U Bu Go and Capital Game. The son of Rowdy Yankee finished third, beaten five lengths, while traversing the mile in 2:00 3/5.

Also on tap Thursday is the $24,743 Breeders Championship Trot for 2-year-old colts and geldings. The Gusty Stable’s Hunter Kelly, who upset similar foes at a $100.20 mutuel two weeks ago, will battle Sacramento Jim, Precious Cargo, Rons Hunter, Dynamite Spirit, Mad Milton and Mighty Trouble in the second race of the 10-event program.
