Dr. Eugene John Joergenson; Retired Surgeon

Dr. Eugene John Joergenson, a longtime Glendale surgeon, has died in Glendale. He was 84.

Joergenson died Thursday of heart failure, said his daughter Ann Joergenson.

Born Aug. 8, 1906, in East Stanwood, Wash., Joergenson came to California in 1929 and graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 1932. He was later a member of the staff at Glendale Adventist Hospital, Loma Linda University Medical Center and Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. From the late 1930s until his retirement in 1979, Joergenson, a general surgeon, had a private practice in Glendale.

Joergenson was a longtime member of the Rotary Club in Glendale and belonged to the Glendale Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he sang in the choir.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Liv; a son, John David Joergenson of Alexandria, Va.; daughters Ann Joergenson of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Jean Krieger of Beverly Hills; and five grandchildren.

A funeral is planned today at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of the Recessional at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1712 S. Glendale Ave. in Glendale. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive in the Hollywood Hills. Arrangements were made by Forest Lawn Mortuary in Glendale. Donations can be made to the E.J. Joergenson Surgical Chair at Loma Linda University.
