Elwood E. Ward; Owned Hearing Aid Center
Elwood E. Ward, who once owned Acousticon Better Hearing Aid Center in Burbank, has died in Glendale. He was 93.
A longtime resident of Burbank, Ward died Friday of natural causes, said his stepdaughter, Irene Owen of Woodland Hills.
Born Jan. 5, 1897, in Jermyn, Pa., Ward came to California in 1940 and worked in the personnel department at the Lockheed Corp. in Burbank during World War II. He later bought Acousticon Better Hearing Aid Center in downtown Burbank, which he ran until his retirement in the early 1970s.
Ward was a member for many years of the First Presbyterian Church of Burbank and the Los Angeles Breakfast Club.
His survivors include his wife of 15 years, Marie Ward; a step-grandson and three step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Burbank at 521 E. Olive Ave. Burial will be private. Eckerman-Heisman Funeral Service in Burbank is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in Ward’s name to the First Presbyterian Church of Burbank.
