PRO FOOTBALL REPORT WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAMS : Two Join Practice Squad

The Rams made two moves to set up their practice-squad roster, signing running back Fred Whittingham Jr. and releasing tight end Jim Price from the injured reserve for the purpose of putting him on the squad. Price was the player the Rams had kept on the last cutdown instead of quarterback Mark Herrmann because the team feared losing Price more than Herrmann. However, Price has been hurt all season and Coach John Robinson said he isn’t as worried about losing him this time. Price must clear waivers before he can be put on the practice squad.

As expected, the Rams also activated cornerback Jerry Gray off injured reserve. There was no need to make room for him on the active roster because kicker John Carney was cut last week.

Robinson said are close to deciding whether second-year defensive linemen Bill Hawkins, Brian Smith and Mike Piel will be able to help the team substantially this season. All three have been limited by injuries.
