Countywide : Agencies Request Bids for 2 Tollways

Share

Orange County’s toll road agencies solicited bids Friday from four firms competing for contracts to design and build two county tollways.

The Transportation Corridor Agencies, which are overseeing the projects, sent the bid forms to a joint venture of Penni Corp. and Guy F. Atkinson Co., Ohbayashi Corp., California Corridor Construction (a consortium of Kiewit Pacific Co., Granite Construction Co. and De Leuw Cather & Co.), and Morrison Knudsen Corp. The bids will involve the San Joaquin Hills and Eastern tollways, which are estimated to cost more than $1.3 billion combined.

The San Joaquin Hills tollway is an extension of California 73 from Newport Beach through the coastal hills to Interstate 5 near San Juan Capistrano. The Eastern tollway is a new route from the Riverside Freeway near Weir Canyon through the mountains to the Santa Ana Freeway in Irvine.

The San Joaquin Hills project is scheduled to be built first, with selection of a firm for construction due in February.
