Hostages Crises in Two Cities
In your article about the hostage drama that left two people dead and nine others injured (“UC Calls for Increased Gun Control,” Sept. 29), the reporters said that Henry’s Publick House and Grille was located one block away from the UC Berkeley campus. When I attended the University of Washington in Seattle between 1946 and 1950, city and university regulations did not allow any liquor establishments or bars closer than one mile to the campus. But around midnight on a Thursday night (when people should have been home in bed), Henry’s Publick House and Grille was filled with students having a party. Tell me, just when do UC Berkeley students study?
