CAMARILLO : Robert Formhals, School Official, Dies

Robert W. Formhals, a board member of the Pleasant Valley Elementary School District who was seeking reelection in November, died Sunday. He was 71.

Formhals, who was running for his third term on the board, died of leukemia at Pleasant Valley Hospital, board officials said.

A resident of Camarillo, Formhals was first elected to the school board in 1981 and served as its president in 1984-85 and 1988-89. He had also served in an appointive position as a member of the district’s personnel commission.

Before his election to the Pleasant Valley board, Formhals also worked as a negotiator for the Conejo Valley Unified School District. He taught business administration courses at California Lutheran University and served as executive secretary/treasurer of the California School Boards Assn.

Formhals is survived by his wife, Elaine, and son, Robert. Funeral arrangements were pending, board officials said.
