Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Richard J. Olson said no motive has been established and there are no suspects. Olson declined to say how the gunman might have entered the dwelling and provided no other details.

A neighbor said he heard a gunshot at about 6 a.m. and saw a man fleeing on foot. The neighbor, who asked that his name not be used, said the suspect fled in a car that had been parked nearby.

McNamara, who sold medical supplies, had lived in the the condo only “a short period of time,” Olson said. Residents of the area said they did not know him well.
