Newport Beach Club Is 2nd in Canoe Race

The Off Shore Canoe Club of Newport Beach finished second to the Honolulu Outrigger Canoe Club in the 39th Bankoh Moloka’i Hoe championship outrigger race Sunday at Honolulu.

Off Shore, which set a course record with a time of 5 hours 6 minutes 29 seconds last year, couldn’t match that this year, finishing in 5:28:52. Honolulu won in 5:19:38.

Olympians Greg Barton and Terry Kent headed the list of paddlers for Off Shore.
