MISSION VIEJO : Anaheim Man Hurt in Freeway Crash

Share

A 25-year-old Anaheim man was in critical condition Tuesday after the flower delivery truck he was driving rear-ended a dump truck on the northbound Interstate 5 during a traffic stall.

Karl Bruno Fiege was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center here with major head and chest injuries. The collision resulted in the collapse of Fiege’s truck cab around him. County Fire Department officials used a hydraulic device to free him from the wreckage.

The driver of the dump truck, Edgar Augusto Rodriguez, 33, was treated for minor injuries.

The incident occurred about 11:30 a.m. just north of the Crown Valley Parkway exit. Traffic had backed up because of a one-vehicle accident just north of the Oso Parkway exit, a mile farther north on the freeway.

“It was an over-the-side incident, but traffic backed up pretty bad because of the looky-loos,” said California Highway Patrol spokesman Ken Daily.

Daily said Fiege either did not realize traffic ahead of him had stopped or failed to judge how quickly it had slowed.
