In the fund-raising race, the mayoral campaign is shaping up as a contest between David and two Goliaths, while the race for the single open council seat is more evenly matched, according to recently filed campaign financial reports.

Councilman Frank G. Fry’s quest for the mayoral seat is fueled by $15,638 in contributions, including $6,088 from a previous filing period. He has spent $3,167 and has $9,158 cash remaining, the report showed.

Incumbent Mayor Charles V. Smith has amassed $14,712 and spent $6,325. Most of his contributions were from local businesses, including $2,500 in copying materials and services from Perfect Printing in Santa Ana, $2,000 from various restaurant owners and $1,000 from Westminster Mall Corporate Property Investors. He has $8,109 cash remaining, the report indicated.

With $1,448 in contributions, dark horse candidate Daryl De Graw has received less than one-tenth the contributions of either of his opponents, and spent $765.

The two candidates for the only open council seat are spending less money, the records show.

Incumbent Councilwoman Anita Huseth’s campaign is entirely funded by a $2,000 loan from her husband, Marvin Huseth, and the $829 cash she had on hand from a previous filing period. She has spent $2,347 and has $482 remaining.

Her opponent, Craig Schweisinger, has received $3,140 and spent $2,918. He has loaned himself $2,500 for the race.
