The city plans to distribute a health directory and design a youth gang prevention program as it moves into its second year as a participant in the California Healthy Cities Project.

The free health directory will be distributed to all residents Dec. 1, Terry Fitzgerald, Duarte’s Healthy Cities Project coordinator, announced at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. The directory will be in the form of a calendar, with each month featuring a different theme, such as a mental health month, senior citizen month and disabled services month.

As soon as the directory is distributed, city staff will start working on youth gang prevention programs, Fitzgerald said.

The Healthy Cities Project was developed last year by UC Berkeley and the state Department of Health Services to promote community health projects. Duarte is one of nine cities chosen last month to receive technical guidance from state officials in developing its proposed projects.
