Lakewood : Council Refuses to Sell or Give Away Bloomfield Park

The City Council on Tuesday turned down a request by the neighboring city of Hawaiian Gardens to buy one of Lakewood’s parks.

Hawaiian Gardens, a small city only 1 1/2 miles square, has little land available for recreation facilities, Mayor H.M. (Lennie) Wagner said in a letter to the Lakewood council.

Wagner asked Lakewood to either sell or give away Bloomfield Park, which borders both cities, to Hawaiian Gardens. Lakewood, however, is not interested in a deal.

“(Bloomfield) is basically an integral part of our entire park system and an important element to the eastern part of our city,” Lakewood Vice Mayor Robert Wagner said before moving to deny the Hawaiian Gardens request.
