Malibu : Committee on Dayworkers

Share

Reacting to homeowner complaints about the hundreds of workers who flock to Malibu street corners seeking day jobs, the City Council-elect set up a committee this week to work out a solution to the problem.

Homeowners and community activists have clashed repeatedly over the alleged threats to public health and safety posed by the workers, who gather in Malibu hoping to get hired. “We need to talk about this as a community issue,” said attorney Frank Buck, who asked the council to form the advisory committee.

The council asked Buck, who will chair the committee, to recruit committee members from hiring site staff, dayworkers, property owners, the Sheriff’s and Fire departments, and local civic groups and churches.
