Big Spenders: Southwest Diversified Inc., an Irvine developer specializing in upscale homes and master-planned communities, says it has started work on a $25-million, 30-home project in Huntington Beach.

Prices will start in the low $700,000s, and many of the lots will be big enough for the owners to erect stables. the company says.

Southwest is doing this in the midst of a major housing slump in what many believe is a national recession.
