Leonard Aaron Hershberg; Retired May Co. Executive

Leonard Aaron Hershberg, a retired May Co. executive and longtime Encino resident, has died in West Los Angeles. He was 63.

Hershberg died Sunday following a lengthy illness, said his wife, Libby Hershberg.

Born July 15, 1927, in Burlington, Vt., Hershberg served in the Navy for three years during the mid-1940s and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Michigan in 1951. He moved to Sherman Oaks in 1963 and later to Encino. In 1963, he was hired as a buyer for May Co. and received several promotions, retiring in 1984 as a divisional vice president and general manager in charge of three stores.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years; son Robert Hershberg of Los Angeles; daughters Dayna Goldenberg of Canoga Park and Lori Hershberg of Sherman Oaks; brothers Edwin Hershberg and David Hershberg, both of Burlington; and Bernard Hershberg of Miami.

A funeral was held Friday with burial at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park in Los Angeles. Donations can be made in Hershberg’s name to the hospice program at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Los Angeles.
