ANAHEIM : Burned Man Booked After Drug Lab Fire

Share

A man covered by burns walked into a doughnut shop early Monday and was arrested by police in connection with a fire at a home that authorities suspect was used as a methamphetamine lab.

One hour after a midnight blaze at a home in the 600 block of Olive Street, where firefighters found chemicals and laboratory equipment used to produce methamphetamines, Darryl Glenn Quinn, 31, wandered into Georgie’s Donuts on South State College Boulevard and asked for medical help, Police Lt. John Cross said.

An employee of the doughnut store called police, who suspected that the burn victim lived at the Olive Street address, about a mile from the doughnut shop, Cross said.

Quinn, who admitted being injured in the midnight fire, was treated for second-degree burns to his upper body at Anaheim Memorial Hospital, Cross said. He was then booked into the Anaheim Police Department Temporary Detention Facility on suspicion of manufacturing dangerous drugs, Cross said.

The home suffered minimal damage from the blaze, which was put out in 10 minutes, firefighters said.

Cross said he could not provide further details on the amount of chemicals and equipment in the home pending results of a joint investigation by the Anaheim police and fire departments and the state Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement.
