Temporary Permit Lets ‘Seduced’ Go On

Share

The Sledgehammer Theatre production of Sam Shepard’s “Seduced” will complete its previously announced extended run at the Progressive Stage Company space through Oct. 27.

The theater in the Gaslamp Quarter had been shut down by the Fire Department on Oct. 9 for violation of fire codes, but reopened Saturday under a temporary permit issued to Sledgehammer Theatre, good only for the course of the run of “Seduced.”

Sledgehammer Theatre made adjustments in the space to satisfy fire inspectors under the terms of the temporary permit. But the department has closed the Progressive Stage Company space to all other companies, including the resident Progressive Stage Company and the resident Teatro Mascara Magica.

Department officials said the space does not meet standards for a “public assembly” space.

Sledgehammer, which had been scheduled to open Georg Buchner’s “Leonce and Lena” at the Progressive Stage Company space Nov. 17, will now open one week later at the Old Globe Theatre’s Cassius Carter Centre Stage on Thanksgiving weekend. (An exact date has not been announced.) The show will run through Dec. 16.
