COUNTYWIDE : Meeting Sought on Insurance Rate Hike

Share

Union officials from six organizations representing more than 6,000 Ventura County employees asked Tuesday for a meeting with county personnel officials before a proposed increase in health insurance rates is considered by the Board of Supervisors.

The supervisors were scheduled to review the raise next week, but postponed it until Oct. 30 so that the group could meet to find out specifically how the county arrived at new insurance rates for employees.

Personnel Director Ron Komers said the rate increases he will recommend to the supervisors will vary according to the five insurance plans available to employees. Some will see no increase; the highest jump will be $46 per month. He is also recommending that the vision plan be dropped.

Union representatives complained to supervisors that they have been unable to find out more about the increase. They also proposed that the unions participate in management of the county’s health plan with the goal of devising a way to save money so that increases are not necessary.
