Share

A 22-year-old transient was found guilty of murder Tuesday in the shooting death of a Simi Valley insurance worker whose Corvette he wanted to buy.

The jury in Ventura County Superior Court deliberated for three hours late Monday and early Tuesday before convicting Oscar Rudolfo Barrascout of first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and first-degree robbery.

The jurors also ruled that Barrascout murdered Gregory D. Minor, 37, during the robbery of Minor’s house on May 18.

The felony-murder ruling subjects Barrascout to a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 13 before Superior Court Judge Charles R. McGrath.

However, Deputy Public Defender Douglas W. Daily said he plans to appeal the verdict.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Donald C. Glynn said of the verdict, “We got everything we wanted.”
