Buck Williams has a $4-million year coming up with the Portland Trail Blazers.

The NBA team extended the 30-year-old power forward’s contract by one year to bring him the windfall in the 1993-94 season.

“I’m quite pleased,” Williams said. “It’s a good situation for both parties and I’m pleased to get it out of the way. It’s a good contract, and I’m hopeful I can finish my career here in Portland.”

Williams had three years plus an option year on a contract that pays him about $1.5 million for the 1990-91 season. The one-year extension replaced the option year.

The extension agreement announced Thursday is the second of three being negotiated by Geoff Petrie, the Blazers’ senior vice president for basketball operations.

Earlier, the Blazers and Clyde Drexler agreed on a one-year extension that will pay the star guard more than $8 million in the final year of his contract. That deal increased Drexler’s average annual pay from $1.2 million to $2.5 million.

The Blazers still are negotiating with forward Jerome Kersey, who has two years remaining on a contract that pays him $550,000 a year. The Oregonian has reported that Kersey has turned down a five-year, $10 million deal.
