Like the parents who sued the band Judas Priest and singer Ozzy Osbourne for “motivating” their teen-age sons’ suicides, Loeffel’s witch hunt is a dangerous denial of responsibility.

I got a glimpse into this line of thinking in my early teens when I began rejecting religion. My mother kept asking who was filling my head with “these ideas.” As I repeatedly explained to her, the only “evil” influence was my own intellect. My mother simply couldn’t accept that someone else wasn’t to blame.

As for the politicians who exploit these moralistic crusades such as Edwin (Mr. Wedtech) Meese, they are merely trying to construct a smoke screen to divert scrutiny from their own corruption and/or incompetence.
