A Thousand Oaks teen-ager was trapped in his car for more than an hour Saturday afternoon and a second teen-ager was injured when one of the boys swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting a car that had stopped in front of him, authorities said.

The Ventura County Fire Department worked with the Jaws of Life to free David Stufkosky from his car, closing Avenida de Los Arboles, one of the city’s major streets, for more than two hours.

Stufkosky, 18, was at Los Robles Regional Medical Center last night with an open fracture to his left leg and head injuries, said Sgt. Will Howe of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

Troy Waters, 16, suffered moderate injuries, he said.

Waters, traveling east in a pickup truck about 3 p.m., swerved head-on into Stufkosky’s car after the car in front of Waters stopped to make a left turn. The impact pushed the front of Stufkosky’s sedan onto his body.
