GABRIEL GARCIA MARQUEZ

Share

I am a hard-core Garcia Marquez fan. I have read nearly all of his books. One can be transported to magic and exotic lands where the only laws that rule are those of his vast imagination.

I have great respect for Garcia Marquez, the writer, and care not for his politics. I have not read a book of his with political overtones. If he has written any political works in disguise, he is a great master of metaphor.

For the article to say that “his political views have been a subject of debate and controversy” leads to the question, by whom? Garcia Marquez says that “No system is good enough” when he talks about capitalism. People who have trouble seeing that capitalism has flaws need to look a bit deeper. Garcia Marquez admits that he is ambiguous. Many people are, but they are not as good writers.

Garcia Marquez is honest: “I don’t have the determination or training to be president . . . the great revolution will come when everyone does his work well.”
