NEWPORT BEACH : Council to Address Pool Safety Codes
The City Council today will discuss whether mandatory safety features should be added to back-yard swimming pools.
The city’s building code could be amended to include requirements for door alarms, pool covers or four-sided fencing around swimming pools.
Building Director Ray Schuller said he will wait to see whether council members are interested in pursuing the issue before drafting an ordinance.
Among the concerns that Schuller would like the council to address are whether pool barriers are a public safety concern or the responsibility of the homeowner.
