From Times Staff and Wire Service Reports

A Fullerton motorist is in custody today on suspicion of manslaughter and drunk driving after he allegedly made a left turn into an oncoming motorcycle Tuesday night, killing a Riverside County couple.

The driver of the motorcycle, Gary Bristol, 45, of Sunnymead, and his passenger, Donna Voccio, 29, of Riverside, were pronounced dead of head injuries at two local hospitals, Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Terry Branum said.

John A. Ferguson, 52, of Fullerton, was turning left on Knott Avenue from Melrose Street, Branum said, as a 1982 Honda motorcycle was coming his way, northbound on Knott.

The motorcycle, which was traveling the speed limit, slammed into the left rear fender of Ferguson’s 1981 Plymouth Arrow, sending Bristol and Voccio soaring into the air, Branum said.

Bristol landed 60 feet from the accident scene, while Voccio landed more than 100 from the collision. Ferguson, who one source said was driving on a suspended license and had two previous drunk-driving convictions, will face arraignment in North County Municipal Court Thursday.
