THE SIDELINES : Ex-Mich. Coach Oosterbaan Dies

ANN ARBOR, Mich. —
Bennie Oosterbaan, the last Michigan football coach to win a national championship, has died. He was 84.
Oosterbaan, who was born in 1906 in Muskegon, died Thursday night in an Ann Arbor nursing home.
During his 11 years as head coach beginning in 1948, Michigan won three Big Ten championships and one Rose Bowl victory, compiling a 66-33-4 record. The Wolverines were 9-0 in 1948, the last time they won a national title.
