Orange County Focus : YORBA LINDA : 5,000 Expected for ‘Presidents’ Parade
About 5,500 people are expected today at the Fiesta Days Parade and Street Faire, the city’s annual celebration featuring live entertainment, food and games.
The 23rd annual event will be “A Salute to the Presidents,” tying into this year’s opening of the Richard M. Nixon Library and Birthplace. Parade participants are expected to decorate their entries with patriotic themes.
The parade, featuring 86 entries, including high school bands, clowns and floats, will begin at 10 a.m. on Casa Loma Avenue at the City Hall parking lot. The parade will travel south to Yorba Linda Boulevard, then east, just past the Nixon Library.
The Street Faire, featuring live entertainment, games, food and crafts, will be from noon to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Nixon Library.
Yorba Linda Boulevard between Richfield Drive and Park Avenue will be barricaded during the event.
In addition, the City Council passed an emergency ordinance last week that bans skateboarding at the Nixon Library during the event. Council members said they feared skateboarders would crash into people in the large crowds.
The event is sponsored by the Yorba Linda Service League, a women’s organization that holds fund-raisers throughout the year to support community activities.
Proceeds from Fiesta Days will go to nonprofit organizations in Yorba Linda.
