Detroit had a season-high 47 shots against goaltender Kari Takko, who was recalled Monday from Kalamazoo of the International Hockey League. Takko was 4-0-1 with a 2.00 goals-against average at Kalamazoo.

The Red Wings (6-3-2) tied a club record set in 1962 with their sixth consecutive home victory to start a season. They are 0-3-2 on the road. The North Stars (2-7-2) are 0-5-1 on the road.

Zombo’s first goal, at 4:42, broke a 4-4 tie. Jimmy Carson started the play with a shot from inside the blue line that Takko blocked. Bob Probert’s rebound also was stopped but Zombo scored off the rebound.

Fedorov took a pass from Brent Fedyk and shoveled it past Takko from between the circles for his fifth goal.
