One man was killed and two others injured early Saturday when their car spun out of control and struck a utility pole in San Fernando, knocking out power in the surrounding area for about four hours, police said.

Albert Soto Garcia, 22, of Arleta was driving east on Glenoaks Boulevard near Orange Grove Avenue about 12:30 a.m. when his car spun into a power pole and skidded about 200 feet before stopping in an empty lot on Huntington Street, San Fernando Police Lt. Dan Peavy said. Garcia, a sailor assigned to the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk, was declared dead at the scene about 15 minutes after the collision.

Passengers Jose Luis Rodriguez, 22, of Encino and Jaime Avila Delgado, 21, of San Fernando were taken to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills. Delgado was in good condition Saturday with a broken leg. Rodriguez was treated for minor injuries and released.
