Second Quarter Is All That Utah State Needs

Running back Floyd Foreman ran for one touchdown and passed for another to lead Utah State to a 31-6 victory over Nevada Las Vegas in Big West Conference game Saturday at Logan, Utah.

The Aggies (2-4-1, 2-1-1 in the Big West) scored their 31 points with 8:44 left in the second quarter.

“I thought we played well in the first half, then we got out of sync,” said Utah State Coach Chuck Shelton said. “We let our exuberance for this game slip when we got the big lead.”

Utah State’s defense held UNLV (4-5, 3-2) scoreless until late in the fourth quarter.

UNLV scored with 25 seconds left, when quarterback Derek Stott connected with wide receiver Keenan McCardell on a one-yard touchdown pass play on fourth and goal.

Tulsa 35, New Mexico State 10--Mark Brus rushed for a school-record 312 yards and scored three touchdowns in a nonconference game at Las Cruces, N.M., as the Hurricane ended a six-game losing streak and extended New Mexico State’s losing streak to 25 games, the nation’s longest.

Brus, a senior tailback who entered the game with only 111 yards, broke the Tulsa record of 250 yards rushing in a single game set in 1952 by Howard Waugh.

Brus scored on runs of 29, nine and 67 yards as Tulsa improved to 2-7 and the Aggies dropped to 0-8.

Tulsa took a 21-7 halftime lead with all of its scoring drives starting inside the Aggie 35.
