During the productive years, the advice was to not depend on Social Security as adequate for retirement income. Save and invest to provide supplemental income to provide for the pleasures of retirement--freedom from financial worries and travel.
What happens? The politicians say, “These affluent retirees should not be paid Social Security benefits!” Treating the whole thing as a welfare program is their objective. Already, the “affluent” retirees pay income tax on one-half of their Social Security income. Your article did not point this out.
Don’t lay the national debt at the feet of those retirees who looked ahead and prepared.
