Capriati Ranked 10th in Women’s Tennis
Jennifer Capriati cracked the top 10 rankings in women’s tennis by winning the Puerto Rico Open.
Capriati, seeded second, defeated top-seeded Zina Garrison 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 on Sunday to take the $150,000 event, her first victory since turning pro in March.
The victory boosted her to No. 10 in the world in the latest rankings.
At 14 years, 6 months, 29 days, she became the third-youngest woman to win a tennis tournament. The youngest was Tracy Austin, who was 14 years, 1 month, 4 days when she won at Portland in January, 1977.
